VMHC Digital Membership Card FAQ

We are thrilled to announce the arrival of digital membership cards, offering a convenient and eco-friendly way to access your member benefits. Here’s everything you need to know: 
 

All VMHC members will receive a digital membership card sent to the email address you provide during membership purchase/registration. Digital membership cards function in the same way as physical membership cards. Simply show your digital membership card to VMHC staff at the Guest Services desk or scan at the parking gates for easy access!

 

When you join or renew your membership, you can also indicate if you require a physical membership card.

 

What are digital membership cards?

Digital membership cards offer convenience and ease of use for members. Digital membership cards can be downloaded and saved to your smartphone or tablet using a digital wallet app.

 

Digital membership cards are sent to the email address you provide when you join or renew your membership. These cards work just like physical cards – simply show you card at the Guest Services desk to enjoy your benefits, including free parking at the VMHC.

 

Can I still request a physical membership card?

All VMHC members will receive a digital membership card sent to the email address you provide during membership purchase registration. Members can also be issued a physical membership card upon request or can indicate their preference on their membership renewal form.

When will you send me new digital cards?

All active VMHC members will be issued digital membership cards in January 2025. After January 2025, you will only receive new digital cards if you change your membership level or upon request. If you need your digital card resent to you, please contact the VMHC at membership@VirginiaHistory.org or 804.340.1800.

 

How do I access my digital card and save it to my phone’s wallet?

Digital membership cards will be sent to the email address used to purchase your membership. When you receive the email with your digital cards, click the included link to download your card to your smartphone or tablet.  If you don’t receive an email or if you accidentally delete the email, please contact the VMHC at membership@VirginiaHistory.org or 804.340.1800. 
 

Once downloaded, your digital cards will live in your smartphone's wallet.
 

iPhone | We recommend iPhone users access digital cards through their Apple Wallet. If you prefer Google Pay, please scroll down to view those instructions.

  1. Access your email through your smartphone or tablet, click the “Download Membership Card” button, then “Add to Apple Wallet” and “Add.”
  2. Your new digital membership card will automatically appear in your Apple Wallet, where it can be accessed at any time.
     

Android | We recommend Android users access digital cards through Google Pay, available from the Google Play Store.
 

Google Pay

  1. Download Google Pay from the Google Play Store. This app must be downloaded prior to downloading your digital card.
  2. Open the digital card email from your smartphone or tablet and tap the “Download Membership Card” button, then “add to Google Pay.” When a preview appears, tap “Save to Gpay.”
  3. In some cases, Google Pay might ask you to log in so you can save it to an account. Please log in to continue (no credit card information should be required).
  4. The card will be saved to Google Pay and you will be able to access it at any time.
     

If you are renewing your membership, the expiration date on your digital membership card will automatically update within 7-10 business days. If you have not yet installed your digital membership card, please contact the VMHC at membership@VirginiaHistory.org or 804.340.1800.

 

How many member card(s) will I receive? How will my secondary member receive their digital membership card?

All members will receive an email with a link to their digital card. The email will only be sent to the primary email address listed on your membership. You can forward the email or use the share feature of the wallet app to ensure that secondary cardholders receive their digital membership card.

 

How do I share my digital membership card with someone else under my membership?

For iPhone users:

  • Open your VMHC membership card in the Wallet app. At the top right side of the screen, tap on the "..." icon and select Pass Details.
  • At the top right side of the screen, tap on the share icon (box with arrow pointing up) to send the card via text message or email to the secondary card holder. We recommend you use the Mail option.

For Android users:

  • Search for an "i" icon at the bottom of your card.
  • Once you tap on this icon, you will see a button that says "Share Pass". Tap on this button.
  • You will see sharing options like Mail, SMS, etc... Use one of those options to share your card. We recommend you use the Mail option.

 

Will my digital card update when I renew my membership?

Yes! You only need to download your card once. After your membership renewal has been fully processed and if automatic updates are turned on in your smart wallet app, your digital card will automatically update with your new expiration date and any name changes you requested. The settings in your phone’s wallet may need to be adjusted to allow for automatic updates. Please allow up to one week for processing.

 

What if I lose, delete, or can’t find my membership card?

You can still visit the museum anytime by showing your photo ID at the Guest Services desk to verify your membership status. If you need a replacement physical card or digital card, please contact the VMHC at membership@VirginiaHistory.org or 804.340.1800.

 

How do I update information on my digital membership card?

To update your membership information, please contact the VMHC at membership@VirginiaHistory.org or 804.340.1800. Once your information has been changed, your digital card will automatically update (no need to download the card a second time).

Please allow 7–10 days for the updates to apply. If you notice that your digital membership card did not update, refresh your wallet or turn on automatic updates in the card’s settings.
