PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

VMHC is happy to offer professional development at no cost to educators in Southwestern Virginia. Past workshops have taken us to Abington, Bristol, the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, and the Montgomery Museum of Art & History in Christiansburg. If you would like to connect with us for a program, please email our Director of Education at mcreech@virginiahistory.org

Our next teacher workshop for teachers in SW VA will take place HERE at the Virginia Museum of History & Culture on June 23rd-24th, and will focus on Virginia's role in the American Revolution as shown in our anniversary exhibition, Give Me Liberty: Virginia & the Forging of a Nation.  All educators who attend will receive a $400.00 stipend to be applied towards travel costs, paid out after the conclusion of the program. Registration is now at capacity. Please email Maggie Creech at mcreech@virginiahistory.org to be added to a waitlist.

Please Note: This workshop is limited to 20 educators who teach in private or public school classrooms.

FREE HistoryConnects Programs

HistoryConnects distance learning programs are live, interactive videoconferences centered on in-depth investigations of primary sources from the VMHC’s vast collection. We offer a large catalog of programming (available here).

Virginia History Day Support

The VMHC is the state affiliate of National History Day, a project-based learning program for students grades 4-12. This interdisciplinary research project helps students develop historical thinking and literacy skills while making the study of history engaging, relevant, and most of all, fun. To find out more about Virginia History Day and how we can support your classrooms, please contact Sam Florer (sflorer@VirginiaHistory.org).
