Fee-Based Research
Fee-Based Research
Our research librarians are able to provide a moderate amount of research (maximum of one hour) for a prepaid fee of $30. This includes a limited number of digital scans. The fee is waived for VMHC members. (Not a member yet? Join today!) This fee is nonrefundable, and research results are not guaranteed. Inquires are answered in the order received. Please allow four weeks from receipt of payment for a response. Researchers are encouraged to contact a reference librarian before submitting their research request, either through the Ask A Question About Our Collections form or at 804.342.9233.

Are you seeking genealogical research assistance?
The VMHC has a number of family history materials helpful for research, which can be found on our Looking For People page. Due to the volume of correspondence received by the Library, the reference staff is unable to reply to complex inquiries received via phone, however support is available by email at reference@VirginiaHistory.org.
Please note that, while the VMHC does have family history materials, the principal library for genealogical research in Virginia is the Library of Virginia, which serves as the official archival repository of the commonwealth and houses such materials as deeds, wills, vital records, and military service records. Other resources that you may find helpful can be found on our Recommended Online Resources page.
