Richmond, VA –After an extensive nationwide search, The Virginia Museum of History & Culture (VMHC) is pleased to announce that Brittany Hutchinson has joined the museum staff as Curator. Hutchison comes to the VMHC from the Chicago History Museum where she served as Assistant Curator. Most recently, she coordinated “The Latinx Project,” a three-year initiative intended to develop meaningful relationships with, and improve the representation of, Chicago’s Latinx at that museum. Hutchison previously worked at the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., and the Chicago Children’s Museum. As Community Engagement Manager at the El Paso Museum of Archeology she established lasting relationships with the local Tigua community. She earned her BA in anthropology with a concentration in bioarcheology from Wayne State University and an MA in Museum Studies and Historic Preservation from Morgan State University. As part of the VMHC’s commitment to sharing stories demonstrating the diversity of our Commonwealth, Hutchinson will focus on engaging communities currently underrepresented in the museum’s collections, exhibitions, and programs.
