Historical Note:On March 16, 1989, a group of fifteen local conservators met for lunch at the 2300 Club in Richmond, Va., to discuss the organization of a regional conservation association. This group agreed there was a need for this association and then held its second organizational meeting on April 27, 1989. As stated in its first bylaws approved by the membership on February 1, 1990, its purpose was to bring together conservators and interested persons working in museums, galleries, archives, libraries, artistic or historic institutions, universities, or in private practice, or professing an interest in the conservation and preservation field to share information, to provide a forum for exchange of ideas, to disseminate conservation information to local museum professionals and the general public, and to promote the on-going training of conservators through seminars.
