Social Media Policy

We encourage conversation and productive dialogue with the online friends and followers of the Virginia Museum of History & Culture in order to build a stronger community.

The goal of our social media pages is to provide an inclusive and respectful medium for sharing ideas, opinions, and information related to Virginia history and culture. However, we reserve the right to remove and/or report comments or engagement of the following nature:

  • Hate speech, including profanity, threatening language, or remarks of a defamatory nature.
  • Name calling or personal attacks.
  • Trolling, including digressive posting unrelated to the topic at hand, deliberately inflammatory comments, or harassment.
  • Spam or comments with the main purpose of selling a product.
  • Comments that infringe on copyright.

Opinions expressed in public comments and posts to our social media accounts are those of the author and do not reflect the opinion or stance of the Virginia Museum of History & Culture or its parent organization, the Virginia Historical Society. Any and all information publicly posted on these accounts may be subject to monitoring and disclosure to third parties.

While we welcome a diversity of viewpoints, we reserve the right to block accounts that violate these guidelines or create a negative atmosphere. Thank you for helping us keep our pages as places for people to respectfully engage.
