Richmond, Va. – The Virginia Museum of History & Culture (VMHC) is pleased to announce its December programming and events.
Lecture Series
- Thursday, December 8th at 12:00pm -The Heart of Hell: The Soldiers’ Struggle for Spotsylvania’s Bloody Angle (Virtual Event)
Join the VMHC and author Jeffry D. Wert in a discussion about his book The Heart of Hell: The Soldiers’ Struggle for Spotsylvania’s Bloody Angle which discusses the Union assault on the Confederate Mule Shoe at Spotsylvania on May 12, 1864.
This is now a virtual event. The lecture will be recorded and streamed on YouTube and Facebook. Signed copies of The Heart of Hell: The Soldiers' Struggle for Spotsylvania's Bloody Angle will be available soon at https://www.shopvirginiahistory.org/.
First Fridays at VMHC

Join the fun at the VMHC on the first Friday of every month. This family-friendly event includes free museum admission, cafe specials, and family activities.
Stories at the Museum
- Saturday, December 3rd at 10:30 am - Gingerbread for Liberty!
Aimed at early elementary learners, our educator-led Stories at the Museum program will feature a read-aloud story time in one of our related museum galleries, paired with a craft activity!
This event is included in museum admission, but registration is required.
Created Equal Film Series
- Tuesday, December 13th at 6:30 pm - Mending Walls
Join the Virginia Museum of History & Culture and The Community Foundation for a greater Richmond for a series of free programs that use the power of documentary film screenings to encourage community discussion focused around themes of civil rights, human rights, and social justice in American history.
This event is free, but registration is required.
Chocolate Making Demonstrations
Learn how chocolate was made in 18th-century Virginia and sample American Heritage Chocolate!

Experience the Museum galleries in a calm, crowd-free environment. Interact with replica objects and our accessibility-trained Museum staff along the way.

Get out of the house during your winter break by joining VMHC Education for a day of guided and self-guided activities!

This is a walk-up program, and no additional registration is necessary. This program is included in museum admission.
