Behind the Lines - Junior Book Club
Mystery Writing Workshop - Wednesday, August 4 at 11:00am

Recommended for ages 7-12, this virtual program will focus on the writing process and what makes great stories, and students will even get to craft an original mystery together tied to part of the VMHC’s collections! Join the VMHC Education team as they explore the Virginia Mysteries Series by Steven K. Smith! The books in this series follow brothers Sam & Derek and their friend Caitlin on adventures throughout the Commonwealth with a twist of history mixed in This virtual program is free, but registration is required.

Stories at the Museum
1st & 3rd Saturdays at 10:00am

Aimed at pre-K and early elementary learners, the educator-led Stories at the Museum programs feature a read-aloud story time in one of our museum galleries, paired with a related craft activity!

Curator Conversations - Who’s in Your Locket?

In this member-only virtual program, join VMHC curator Dr. Karen Sherry to learn about the social symbolism of miniature portraits and view examples of these historical love tokens from the museum’s collections.

Banner Lecture Series - Fire in the Wilderness
Thursday, August 19, at 12:00pm

In this Banner Lecture, join the VMHC and historian John Reeves as he discusses the battle of the Wilderness, the first clash between Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee.

Big Stone Gap
Saturday, August 28 at 10:30am

Join VMHC Education in a book club conversation about Big Stone Gap, a historical fiction novel about a tiny town in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and a cast of eccentric characters.

This in-person event is free, but registration is required.
