Richmond, VA – The Virginia Museum of History & Culture (VMHC) is pleased to announce the museum’s events and programs for May.

Banner Lecture Series
President Without A Party – Thursday, May 20 - Noon


In this virtual Banner Lecture, Christopher Leahy examines the presidency of John Tyler, the first President to ascend to the office because of the incumbent’s death and America’s only chief executive to have been kicked out of his own political party.

This program is free and will be livestreamed on the VMHC Facebook and YouTube channels.

Member Mondays
Monday, May 10 at 5:30pm

This popular series exclusively for VMHC Members returns with socially-distanced picnicking at the Virginia House in Richmond’s Windsor Farms on the first and second Mondays of April and May.

Student Webinar - Picture This
Tuesday, May 11 at 10:00am

Using 20th-century photographs and primary sources, this student webinar allows students to examine changes in Virginia society and politics through such themes as education, industrialization, urbanization, transportation, and the changing roles of women.

This program is free but registration is required.

Movie Mythbusting
Pirates of the Caribbean - Tuesday, May 11 at 7:00pm
Felicity – Tuesday, June 1 at 7:00pm

Join the VMHC Education Team as they ‘mythbust’ popular movies. Watch the films in advance and then log into interactive Zoom presentations where all will chat about what’s true, what’s not, and connections to the VMHC collections.

These programs are free but registration is required.

Curators at Work - Pocahontas’s Virginia
Friday, May 21 at Noon

In this virtual Curators at Work program, VMHC Senior Curator William Rasmussen will discuss the experiences of Pocahontas when The Virginia Company that sponsored the Jamestown settlement arranged for her travel to England in 1616, and what followed as she prepared to return to Virginia.

This free program will be streamed live on the VMHC Facebook and YouTube channels.
