Judd Proctor and Brian Burns, in conversation with the VMHC's Claire Hope

In 2005, Richmond gay activist Judd Proctor and his partner (now husband) Brian Burns, began underwriting WRIR Richmond’s “This Way Out,” an award-winning and internationally distributed weekly LGBTQ+ radio program. A year later, a popular segment of each episode honoring gay and lesbian icons throughout history took on a life of its own. Together, Proctor and Burns created more than more than 2,000 episodes of “The Rainbow Minute,” which continues to air locally on WRIR as part of “This Way Out” in Los Angeles by “IMRU,” where it receives international listenership.
