Richmond, VA – This fall, the Virginia Museum of History & Culture will host its inaugural History Matters Symposium, an event where historians, practitioners, enthusiasts, and members of the public will gather to explore our shared past.
On Saturday, November 4th, guests can experience a full day of engaging presentations that highlight groundbreaking research into Virginia history around the theme of "Discovery," as they hear from 12 panels comprising nearly 40 experts from across the Commonwealth and beyond. This year's presenters will cover an array of thought-provoking topics such as eighteenth-century Williamsburg's scientific community, the use of augmented reality to study the Civil War, the future of Richmond's Confederate monuments, first-hand accounts of Virginia's school desegregation movement, and many more.
In addition to compelling panel discussions, guests will have access to tailored museum experiences that celebrate Virginia discoveries. Ending the day will be a special reception and keynote lecture from Colonial Williamsburg's Director of Archeology, Jack Gary. “Exploring history is key to understanding how we got to the present, and more importantly where we go next,” President & CEO at the Virginia Museum of History & Culture Jamie Bosket said in a statement. “The History Matters Symposium provides a thoughtful and engaging forum where we can bring together voices from diverse perspectives to share in the history of the Commonwealth.”
Tickets to the event include museum admission, morning refreshments, the keynote lecture, and an evening reception. Separate tickets are available for those only interested in the evening lecture and reception. Discounted tickets are also available for students and teachers. Pre-registration is required.
